One of the best decisions I made last year was to plant strawberries. I mail ordered Tribute everbearing strawberry plants (more like roots, actually) from Stark Bros, put them in the ground in the spring, and they grew well and spread like crazy. They have required absolutely no effort on my part, and the rewards have (as you can see for yourself) been incredible. They produce strawberries all summer, and I already have more than I can possibly eat.
No more purchasing pints of strawberries shipped all the way from California! I eat them every morning with plain yogurt and granola, and can’t get enough of them. After picking this batch that you see in the photo, I traded some much needed sleep in the middle of the night for a bowl of sliced strawberries and whipped cream. Now, if I only had time to pick them!

Wow, those look great, Maggie. I think I might order some of those for next spring. Yours look so healthy and lush. The “no effort” part sounds good to me too.

I agree with Sherry. These are good-looking strawberries. I’ll definitely put them on my gardening wish list.

Thanks! My only advice (for whatever it is worth) is to buy fewer than you think you will need. At least this variety of strawberries started spreading immediately, and began spilling out of the beds the first summer. Better yet, get a few strawberry runners from a friend or neighbor. They seem virtually indestructable, and I have had good results from digging up the plants that have escaped into the pathway and giving them to others to start their beds.

I think those strawberries look fantastic. Strawberry shortcake, anyone?

Thanks! I keep thinking the same thing, but haven’t had the time or energy to make it. I keep thinking one of these days I will!
